Volunteers in San Miguel de Allende have been tirelessly working to clean the Arroyo de las Cachinches, an initiative that significantly impacts the local environment and community. Since January, this dedicated group has spent 12 Saturdays removing trash from the arroyo, recently clearing out 120 bags of litter. Their efforts aim not only to beautify the area but also to restore the ecosystem by introducing more plants and trees. This collaboration includes local residents, foreign nationals, and various community members, uniting in a common cause. Organized by Colectiva Ecología en la Montaña, they have also managed to fund transportation for waste disposal and gardening services, reflecting a strong communal spirit.
Meanwhile, a mural project intended to celebrate the arroyo has encountered a delay due to a permitting issue. Initially scheduled for June, the La Vida de las Cachinches mural corridor project will now await necessary approvals from local authorities. Project leaders remain optimistic and are eager to resume work as soon as they can proceed. This initiative promises to illustrate the flora and fauna of the area and provide an educational map of the arroyo’s historical journey through the city.
In another heartwarming development, the newly launched SMA Kindness Collective is aiming to foster community connections and assist newcomers settling in. Founded by local resident Lisa Williams and others, the initiative seeks to share essential information with both new and long-time residents. Their gatherings have already sparked interest and show promise in creating a supportive network for diverse community members.
Lastly, the NGO Rosey’s Wish is making a notable impact on animal welfare in rural areas around San Miguel. Their mobile sterilization clinic has been reaching out to pet owners since March 2025, helping to control the population of stray animals. Last year, they successfully sterilized over 1,200 pets, and they are aiming for 2,000 this year. The initiative not only reflects compassion towards animals but is also a vital part of community health. As they continue their work, Rosey’s Wish welcomes volunteers and donations, emphasizing the needed collaboration to tackle this ongoing challenge.
