In an unexpected delight for music lovers, the American band Garbage will perform a free concert in the Zócalo of Mexico City on Saturday, November 14. This special event marks the grand finale of their North American tour, which began in September 2025, and offers citizens a chance to celebrate with a beloved band in one of their country’s most iconic venues.
Lead singer Shirley Manson, often referred to as “The Godmother of Rock,” has shared that this concert signifies a significant transition for the band, as they conclude nearly three decades of relentless touring. Manson expressed that while the band cherishes the experiences they’ve had, the modern realities of extended touring have become both financially and personally challenging.
The Mexico City mayor’s office inadvertently announced the concert early, but soon after, Garbage confirmed the news through their official Instagram account. Manson reflected on their excitement about the invitation from the Mexican Government, stating how deeply honored they feel to perform in such a prestigious location.
Over the years, the band has developed a special bond with their Mexican fans, having played in the country 16 times since their first visit in 1996. Manson emphasized this connection, calling it a “30-year-long love affair” that highlights their appreciation for the support they’ve received.
Formed in 1993, Garbage consists of four enduring members, and their commitment to their music and fans has only strengthened over time. The upcoming concert in the Zócalo promises to be not only a significant musical event but also a heartfelt gathering that honors the ongoing relationship between the band and their devoted audience in Mexico.
