Almost nine months after the harrowing kidnapping of ten workers from the Vizsla Silver Corporation’s mine in Sinaloa, progress is being made in the investigation. Two alleged members of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel have been arrested in connection with this tragic incident, which has profoundly impacted the local community and the families affected. The Defense Ministry confirmed these arrests, providing a glimmer of hope for justice amidst ongoing grief.
The operation, a collaborative effort by the Defense and Security Ministries, along with the Special Operations Group of the Sinaloa state Public Security Ministry, resulted in the capture of Ángel Gabriel “N (a),” known as “Tronco,” and Milton Yair “N.” During their apprehension, authorities seized two rifles, a grenade launcher, ammunition, tactical gear, and drugs. This development highlights the persistent efforts of federal institutions to enhance security and combat organized crime, aiming to restore peace in affected regions.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office in Culiacán for further legal proceedings, marking an important step in addressing the turmoil that has beset the area since January. This is not the first time suspects related to this case have been detained. Earlier, the federal government’s Security Cabinet arrested Gabriel Nicolás Martínez Larios, known as “Gabito,” believed to hold a significant role within the cartel and suspected of being linked to the kidnapping.

The ten miners were initially believed to have been mistaken for members of a rival criminal group, which led to their tragic abduction and the later discovery of nine of their bodies.
