In a significant move for sustainable transportation, the Government of Mexico revealed the Olinia Carga, its second electric vehicle prototype, during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s latest press conference. Designed for small businesses, this light-cargo vehicle can carry up to 650 kilograms and has a range exceeding 120 kilometers, aimed at enhancing daily logistics in urban areas. Set to be available by late 2027 at an estimated cost of 150,000 pesos, the Olinia Carga reflects a commitment to making electric vehicles more accessible and suitable for local needs.
The press conference also addressed pressing security issues, including the recent arrest of Fausto Corrales Rodríguez in connection with the kidnapping of Sinaloa Cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. This development may shed light on the circumstances surrounding Zambada’s notorious abduction in July 2024. President Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of this arrest in potentially unraveling complexities linked to ongoing cartel conflicts.
Additionally, the expected extradition of Rear Admiral Fernando Farías Laguna from Argentina has been delayed due to a legal matter raised in his case. Farías is implicated in a fuel smuggling and tax evasion scheme. Sheinbaum reassured the public that the transfer is anticipated to occur without further complications.
These developments reflect the ongoing efforts by the Government of Mexico to address both innovative transportation solutions and critical security challenges, impacting the lives of everyday citizens and the broader structure of the nation’s infrastructure.
