In a remarkable showcase of innovation and talent, a 17-year-old from Tamaulipas is representing Mexico at the International Science and Invention Fair in Indonesia, with an invention that could change how we think about fire safety. Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández has developed Vortex Tech, a prototype fire extinguisher that uses sound waves to put out small flames, offering a new perspective on safety and technology that might enhance everyday lives.
Ángela, a student at CETis 78 in Altamira, traveled to the University of Indonesia in Depok near Jakarta, where she shares her vision and creativity with the world. Supported by her uncle, José Arturo Hernández Muñoz, who has a master’s degree in science, she has dedicated a year to perfecting this idea. Through local, regional, and national competitions, Ángela’s hard work has led her to this moment, inspiring others in her community and beyond.
The concept behind Vortex Tech was inspired by videos showing a large sonic cannon extinguishing flames without traditional means. This motivated her to create a smaller, more accessible version. After two months of developing the first prototype capable of extinguishing a candle, she and her uncle refined the technology through multiple iterations, ensuring it aligns with scientific principles while being practical for use.
Vortex Tech operates on a 12-volt battery, using a frequency generator, amplifier, and speaker to create sound waves that disrupt the oxygen needed for flames, extinguishing small fires within seconds. While it’s still experimental and designed for smaller fires, it represents a shift in how we can approach fire safety.
Additionally, the project includes thermal sensors to detect flames automatically, enhancing its capability. The Tamaulipas Education Ministry supports Ángela’s journey, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talents who can innovate and contribute positively to society.
Ángela Venegas’s journey is a testament to the potential within our youth, showcasing how creativity and determination can lead to advancements that benefit communities. As she competes on an international stage, she brings not just a unique invention but also pride to her state and country.
